Northern Lights with Iceland by Guide

Chase the Northern Lights
with a local guide.

My name is Bijo. I offer a small number of private Northern Lights evenings during the Icelandic winter. I personally monitor the conditions and make the go / no-go decision — because if I don't think the evening is worth going, I would rather tell you that.

Three ways to experience the Northern Lights.

These are not different levels of service. They are simply three different ways to spend your evening. Every option is private, flexible and personally hosted by me.

We go where the conditions look best.

Warm water first. Arctic sky afterwards.

Dinner first. Northern Lights afterwards.

I pick you up and we choose somewhere to eat together — somewhere I would genuinely recommend.

Over dinner we get to know each other and talk about Iceland, your trip and what you have experienced so far.

Afterwards I take you back to your hotel so you can change into warm clothing. Then we head out together for the Northern Lights.

Northern Lights experience in Iceland

My approach

I don't go out simply because the calendar says we have a tour.

A Northern Lights tour takes up a large part of your evening and often affects the following morning as well.

If I believe the outlook is poor, I would rather tell you to have a good dinner, enjoy Reykjavík and try another evening.

I personally assess the cloud cover, weather, road conditions and aurora activity before departure. When I think the opportunity justifies going, we go.

One complimentary second attempt.
If we go out and do not see the Northern Lights, one aurora-only second attempt is included, subject to suitable conditions, availability and your remaining time in Iceland.

Bijo at an active volcanic eruption in Iceland

When Iceland erupts

An eruption changes the plan.

If an eruption is active while you are in Iceland, contact me. If official access is open and the conditions make sense, we can look at the possibilities and go there together.

And if the Northern Lights happen to join us, even better.

Access always depends on official restrictions, gas conditions, weather, roads and safety. This is never something I promise in advance — contact me and we assess the situation.
