Around Iceland — 8 Days / 7 Nights
Eight days around Iceland with your own private guide — from waterfalls, black beaches and glaciers to the East Fjords, volcanic North Iceland, remote fishing villages and the wild landscapes of the west.
Land in Iceland. From there, I take care of the journey.
I will meet you after your arrival at Keflavík International Airport and travel with you around Iceland for the full eight-day journey. The route combines the essential Ring Road landscapes with the smaller places, viewpoints, stories and spontaneous stops that make a private journey different from a fixed group itinerary.
October is a beautiful time to travel: autumn light, quieter roads, changing landscapes and a real possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. It can also bring snow and winter conditions, so the exact route remains flexible. We follow Iceland rather than fight it.
Eight days. Eight very different parts of Iceland.
This is the framework I would build the journey around. It gives us direction without turning the trip into a stopwatch itinerary.
Arrival & the Golden Circle
I meet you at Keflavík Airport and we begin the journey immediately. We travel into the Golden Circle region for Þingvellir, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss, together with smaller stops that fit naturally into the day. We finish in South Iceland rather than returning unnecessarily to Reykjavík.
South Coast to Vík
Waterfalls, farms, volcanoes and the Atlantic coast. We travel past Eyjafjallajökull toward Skógafoss before continuing to the black beaches and basalt coastline around Reynisfjara and Vík.
Vík to Höfn — into glacier country
We cross the vast lava fields of the south and continue through Fjaðrárgljúfur and the landscapes beneath Vatnajökull. The centrepiece of the day is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, with Fjallsárlón and other glacier viewpoints available as conditions allow.
Höfn to Egilsstaðir — the East Fjords
We begin beneath the extraordinary mountains of Stokksnes and then follow the East Fjords north. This is slower, quieter Iceland: fishing villages, narrow fjords, mountain roads and the possibility of seeing reindeer along the way.
Egilsstaðir to Mývatn
Today the landscape becomes increasingly volcanic. We visit the basalt formations of Stuðlagil, continue toward Dettifoss and then enter the Mývatn region — one of the most geologically active and visually unusual parts of Iceland.
Mývatn to Siglufjörður
We explore the volcanic landscapes around Mývatn before continuing west to Goðafoss. From there the journey crosses North Iceland, through Akureyri and into the mountains and fjords of Tröllaskagi, ending in the historic fishing town of Siglufjörður.
Siglufjörður to West Iceland
We leave the northern fjords and travel west through quieter farming country, valleys and coastal landscapes. This is a day where the journey itself matters — Icelandic horses, roadside discoveries, weather, light and the gradual transition into West Iceland.
West Iceland & the road south
The final day is shaped around your departure time. Depending on where we stay and the conditions, we use the morning and early afternoon for West Iceland before completing the circle and travelling south toward Reykjavík and Keflavík Airport.
The moments between the famous places matter just as much.
A private journey gives us room to stop when something is worth stopping for — and to add experiences that match the way you want to travel.
Glacier experiences
Depending on conditions and availability, glacier activities can be built into the journey rather than added as an afterthought.
Geothermal bathing
Slow the journey down with a geothermal bath in the north or another carefully chosen bathing experience along the route.
Stop when Iceland gives us a reason
Horses, weather, an unexpected viewpoint, unusual light or simply somewhere that deserves ten more minutes. That flexibility is part of travelling privately.
Wild Iceland
Reindeer can sometimes be seen in East Iceland, and wildlife becomes part of the journey whenever nature gives us the opportunity.
Northern Lights
October gives us a genuine possibility of seeing the aurora. There are no guarantees — but on a multi-day journey we have several evenings and the freedom to react when conditions line up.
A strong final day
If flight times allow, West Iceland gives us options such as scenic stops or geothermal bathing before we complete the journey south.
A fixed destination. A flexible route.
October can give us beautiful autumn conditions, first snow, clear roads, storms, sunshine and all four seasons in the same day. That is normal Iceland.
The aim is to complete the circle around Iceland, but I will adapt the route whenever weather or road conditions make another choice better. The advantage of travelling privately is that we can make those decisions intelligently as the journey unfolds.
Iceland with someone who knows the road.
I’m Bijo, an Icelandic licensed guide and the founder of Iceland by Guide. I have spent the last 15 years travelling Iceland with guests from around the world.
On a private multi-day journey, my job is not simply to drive you from attraction to attraction. I plan the route, read the conditions, tell you the stories behind the landscape, find the smaller stops, help with photography and adapt each day to what is actually happening around us.
For these eight days, Iceland is our itinerary — not a bus timetable.
